I’m particularly a fan of number 3, Multiple Income Streams. Insurance against job loss is a great reason to generate at least one additional stream of income. For me however, someone that is focused like a laser on retirement, the likelihood that factors/circumstances beyond my control will negatively impact one or more of my projected streams of retirement income is the reason multiple streams of income is key.

During the working years, multiple streams can offer insurance against the impact of a negative occurrence (e.g. job loss) and similarly in retirement, multiple streams offer insurance against a negative occurrence such as a sponsor changing pension benefits or a significant loss in a 401(k) account.

Nice coverage of an important topic, my friend.

Teaching this mindset at an early age will surely help your child become a producer rather than a consumer in this life. That is fantastic to hear that your whole family is doing side hustles and building up those passive income streams. For our other readers out there, how did you get started?

It’s funny because I actually just finished reading your post and sharing it on Twitter! Great post on using existing skills to create a side hustle. I always feel bad when I hear my friends say that they are stuck. The first step towards getting unstuck is just to take a step.

As you may know I recently wrote “Hustle Away Debt” and these are all great reasons to side hustle. One particular group I’m passionate about is those who are entrepreneurial but feel “stuck” in a 9-5 due to debt, obligations, etc. Side hustles open up the opportunity to flex your entrepreneurial muscles while still keeping the safety and security of a 9-5. Tons of upside!

I worked at McD’s during high school & saved some of that money for college & mowed lawns on the side. Now my wife & I are doing side hustles to have multiple income streams, with the ultimate intention of not having to work of being self-employed & not working for an employer. It’s not easy, but we like the perks of being our own bosses.

I remember being in that place where I knew that every dollar that would come in the next paid check was already spent. It was a miserable feeling and definitely caused strain on my relationships. Getting that debt down was one of the most freeing feelings that I have experienced and one of the main reasons I started this blog. I want to help my friends learn from my mistakes.

Love to read different stories about how different people find, and manage, their path to financial freedom. “Without financial independence, I do not know if I will have the time to accomplish all of these things.” So true. As I always tell people, having money (finding financial freedom) isn’t about hoarding wads of cash, it’s about having choices. If an individual is spending all of their time chasing the next dollar to service debt, they aren’t spending a lot of time cultivating relationships, traveling, experiencing different cultures, volunteering, etc.
